Help End Homelessness

Emergency Shelters– Volunteer at one of the fifty emergency shelters throughout Maine.  Please contact your local emergency shelter for specific information about volunteering.

Grace Street Ministry– Consider donating one of the year round or seasonal goods that Grace Street Ministry distributes to those in need.  Or, consider being trained for this ministry of presence by partaking in an internship through Bangor Theological Seminary.

Maine Volunteer Lawyers Project(VLP)Volunteer with VLP to help low-income individuals navigate the civil justice system.

National Coalition for the Homeless– Get involved by making in-kind donations or by becoming an advocate, volunteer, or educator.

Family Promise– Volunteer at one of the Interfaith Hospitality Network affiliates in New England.  Engage your community through the Just Neighbors program to learn about the root causes of poverty and effective community-based solutions.  Offer one-on-one support to at-risk families through Family Mentoring.  Join Voices Uniting to advocate for policies that can help lift families out of poverty.  Students looking for internship opportunities are encouraged to be in contact.

National Alliance to End Homelessness– Support the work of the Alliance by becoming an advocate or volunteer in your community.

Habitat for Humanity– Contact your local Habitat affiliate to get involved with building homes and advocacy work in your local community.
