Hunger is a growing problem in Maine that plagues children, adults, and senior citizens.  Good Shepherd Food Bank, a nonprofit organization that gathers and distributes food to pantries and meal programs throughout Maine, offers some alarming statistics on hunger. 14.8 percent of Maine households, or nearly 195, 000 Mainers are food insecure.  Even more alarming is that 21.1 percent of Maine children under the age of 18 are food insecure.  Maine ranks ninth in the nation for food insecurity.
